Hello everyone! Welcome to the Leaf And Vine blog. Most of what you'll find here is stuff I've made, be it for commission, as a gift, or for myself-it's the best way to get a look at my work and decide what you may want. The stickied posts here (past this one!) are pricing information, commission availability, policies, and samples of my work (not necessarily in that order).

Now, all that said, a little about myself and my work.

I'm a small town girl living in Colorado, and I've been here for over five years. I've been working as a massage therapist for just over two of those (counting my internship), which I absolutely LOVE. I don't regret a minute of my time here. I'm engaged to be married to a lovely lady, but that won't be happening for about two years or more. We're the kind of girls who fancy a long engagement.

I'm a huge nature girl. Being outdoors and around animals (especially at the same time!) are some of my favorite things in the world, as is my garden-even though that only exists in pots on my patio. I adore riding horses-though I rarely get the chance-and spend most of the time I'm not spending massaging, outside, creating stuff, or indulging in my million other hobbies cuddling my kitty, and/or my puppy.

I'm a huge bookworm, and you'll find that influences a lot of what I do, as does my nature as a healer, nature lover, and massage therapist. I'm a huge history and mythology buff, as well as a huge fantasty fan. J.R.R. Tolkien is my hero, I am a Browncoat, I am secretly a Jedi and can disapparate, the Enterprise is just out of orbit above my house, the Doctor once dragged me into a big blue box, my wardrobe is a Stargate that opens into a forest, and Mockingjays sing outside my window.

I am also very spiritual. That is not to say religious, for that I am not-religion is a man-made invention and too often caught up with dogma. I am speaking of a state where I appreciate and attempt to percieve to the height of my ability, the spirit, the simple details, the life, of everything that is around me, and to respect it.

This is a very important influence to my work. Nothing I make, and nothing I do, is without meaning. Every piece is unique, and is made with a specific idea in mind, and has a story of its own. Sometimes that story may be as simple as the client's to whom it belongs, sometimes I may imagine that the piece itself is a window into a little tale. But what remains is that there is no piece that is exactly the same, no matter that they can come close.

For this reason, I do offer pre-made items (as sometimes I create as the mood strikes me), but almost exclusively take commissions. Samples of my work can be found by clicking on the tag "sample work", so that you may see my style and perhaps be inspired as to what you might want from me.

As to my artistry itself, I am a little bit of a Jane of all trades in that regard. I've been sewing since I was two, making jewelry for four years, a fine artist (of increasing skill) since I could pick up a crayon, knitting for several years (after picking it up at the age of six and taking a 15 year interlude), and working on my digital photography skills for four years also.

I tend to do a lot of work with socks, scarves, hats, mittens, and gloves when I knit. I'm sure I can do other things like dolls or clothing, but I've never had cause to experiment. I've got some skill with lace, but more skill with cables and texture patterns. I'm still beginning with color blocking, but I'm learning fast and it's a very simple concept to learn. I really rather love knitting, and while I am not a speed knitter like some, my work is good.

As a sewer, I do most of my work with costuming. I have very little practice piecing together my own patterns, but I am able to alter others to suit my needs quite well. I have a particular love of historical and historically inspired fantasty costumes, and movie costumes. I have been making costumes for 8 years now, and sewing for 23-all my time prior to that was spent altering basic clothing patterns, and quilting (something which I retain only some of my skill in, but which I can still do some decent, if simple, work with).

My main subject material when it comes to photography is nature and landscape based, though there are often also people and animals mixed in with that. I have a particular love of trying to find odd details to focus in on that most people wouldn't find, as well as trying to find ways to capture the beauty that is Colorado (whether city, suburb, or mountain) in ways that have not been done before.

As a fine artist, the medium in which I have the most talent is graphite, as that is what I have on hand most often. Charcoal is also a particular love of mine, as are soft pastels and compressed pigments (of those two, particularlythe latter, I use Conte pigments). I have been known to paint with acrylics on occasion, when the mood strikes me (usually more related to subject material rather than medium); I do not paint with oils. I can work with watercolor pencils, though I have less experience with them, and I have also done some silk painting, which I very much enjoy.

When it comes to jewelry, you find my main love. I work only with natural materials-metal, wood, bone, stone, bamboo, shell, flower, leaf, and glass only in Delica seed beads for spacers and the very rare blown glass pendant. Now, as I mentioned earlier, I make nothing ready made or generic-all of my pieces have meaning and a little bit of life.

That being said, my jewelry has more of that than the rest of my mediums. I find that the best work I have ever done with jewelry has been when a piece has been made for a specific purpose: a protection necklace for a pagan practitioner, a choker or collar to embody one of the Archangels, a bracelet made in memory of a loved one, a hair drape given as a birthday or anniversary gift.

I am not restricted to keeping such personalization and meaning from all my pieces, though my skill is greatest with jewelry. I can and will gladly work with nearly anyone of nearly any background, to make highly individualized, meaningful pieces. I absolutely adore being able to do this.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about my work, commission details or requests, or anything else that my following posts do not clarify. Thanks for dropping by the page!
